Search Engine Optimisation or SEO.
What is SEO? SEO is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via search results. Typically, the higher a site's page rank (the earlier it comes in the search results list), the more visitors it will receive from the search engine.
Unfortunately achieving No#1 on a google search engine is not as easy as you might think.
A large determining factor is links. One way links (links back to your website) are like gold stars to a search engine. The more gold stars you have the higher your ranking.
The big question is how do you get these links? Well you can sign up and download some software which will go about systematically creating links for your site. Do they actually create these links? Well, yes most of them probably do. Well, then what’s the problem? Well the problem is that these computer generated link creating systems have been outsmarted by Google (the number #1 all time search engine).
Google knows these are not genuine links from users who have been to your site, loved your content and then linked to you from their site!
So given that there are no broken links on your site, no error pages, easy accessible information for search engine crawlers, the next step to higher rankings is to create quality links. There are tried and true methods for genuine link building. They are as follows:
Directory Submissions - Search for directories affiliated to your business and then list them. There are around 20-30 quality directories you could list your website on.
Write Articles - Write articles and submit them to on-line article directories. This will show others that you are an expert in your field and when they are impressed with your articles they will link to your site.
Social Posting - Bookmarking your site so that people with the same interests can view your site. It also give the opportunity to allow people to give your site ratings. If your niche is popular then, socially bookmarking your site may equal many views of your one way link back to your website.
Start Blogging - Blogging is a great and easy way to keep your website up to date. The search engines love fresh material, so when you make a post to your blog, certain functionality will notify the search engines and other directories that you have posted new content.
